Packing and moving checklist

No matter how you slice and dice it, moving can be stressful (even when you’re working with the best real estate team in the world). make sure you’ve got all your ducks in a row, when making your big move.

  • Get the big day scheduled & on the calendar.

  • Schedule movers and/or reserve a rental truck.

  • Gather moving supplies - boxes, tape, sharpies etc. Pro-Tip - you can often find free boxes on Facebook Marketplace from folks who’ve just moved!

  • Create a clear donation pile/space so you don’t move these items twice.

  • Create a do not pack space: a laundry basket or something similar - where you can place important info you want to have handy during the move.

  • Do the low hanging fruit first: Pack the things you don’t use often.

  • Label all boxes with contents and the room in the new house you want them dropped off in. This makes it easy for folks helping you!

  • File Change of Address for with the US post office.

  • Stop utilities at your current place and start at the new one (we have a great Utility Checklist for this!)

  • Notify the School - if you have kids in school, that school will need to know your new address.

  • Gather appliance manuals and warranty information and put in safe place for buyers of your home.

  • Clean rooms that have already been emptied.

  • Pro-tip - use blue painters tape to tape close cabinets that have already been emptied, to save time and headspace. Easily know when something’s been completed.

  • Clean your home so it’s move-in ready for the new owners.
